YMCA of Greater Moncton’s environmental initiatives help us operate our business in a more sustainable manner, from internal operations to green initiatives we apply with our members. YMCA of Greater Moncton focuses on five major cornerstones that we believe are critical to achieving this overarching goal:
Reduce & Recycle
- Think before you print
- Print double-sided wherever possible
- Use paper with recycled content
- Internal Newsletter is switched to electronic communication and billboards posting
- Limit brochures and other printer material (Focus on building our website)
- Recycle cardboard
- Recycle ink and toner cartridge
- Recycle paper
Eco friendly building
- CFL bulbs
- Purchase in bulk if possible (fewer trips for supplies)
- Eco-friendly/recycled paper or cleaning products
- Reminding people to shut off lights and computer monitors when not in use or building closed
- Recycling bins
In our community
- Community garden
- Promote environmental initiatives to whole community and invite others to do the same
Environmental Education
- Educate staff and improve attitudes about waste reduction
- Talk about environment in our early child development centers
- Create a project with the Leaders In Action committee
- Encourage the whole community to create their own green plan
- Fair Trade awareness weeks in May
Changing our habits
- Bike, walk or take the bus to the YMCA when possible
- Reduce the Adult Plus towel consumption
- Greening our events
