Since 2007, the YMCA of Greater Moncton, with help from its community partners, has been home to a community garden that has provided people in the surrounding area and beyond with access to nutritious food and the knowledge, training and tools to use that food appropriately. The YMCA Community Garden creates a green space for people to gather, socialize, and learn about where their food comes from, all while watching it grow and reaping the benefits of their labor.

The YMCA Community Garden is over 6000 square feet and designed to meet the needs of everyone in the community. The garden is divided up into 48 plots, each approximately 8x13 feet, and six raised beds for individuals with mobility challenges. The garden also boasts 6 apple trees, raspberry and blueberry patches, currant bushes and a large plot dedicated to the YMCA Caring Community Food Bank. All the food produced from the food bank plot is used to help over 500 families within our community make more nutritious choices and live healthier lifestyles.

Garden plots can be purchased for $15. This cost includes:

• Water
• Shed and tools
• Workshops
• Garden and soil preparation

There are many volunteer opportunities available through the community garden, from filling the water barrels to helping maintain the food bank plot.
